Course Description

Examine key issues within the field of second/foreign language teaching and learning, and develop your understanding of both theoretical and pedagogical considerations of second language acquisition, on our MA Education (Second Language Learning and Teaching) master’s degree.

This degree is suitable for applicants who have experience of, or are interested in, the teaching of second/foreign languages. It covers topics such as:

  • theories in second language acquisition
  • research approaches to second language learning and teaching
  • language teaching methodologies.

With a flexible structure – including full-time and part-time options – as well as a range of optional modules, you’ll be able to tailor this degree to your circumstances and interests.

Entry Requirements

Normally a good undergraduate honours degree (2:1 or above), or equivalent from a university outside the UK, and a professional background in education/training – ideally at least two years’ experience of teaching/training. In exceptional cases, a candidate with a slightly lower degree qualification may be allowed to present additional teaching experience to support their application. If you wish to take a specialist pathway, you may also need to demonstrate additional subject knowledge and qualifications.
