Course Description

Explore the relationship between energy, environment, and climate change and how they relate to sustainability throughout all sectors in society.

This course gives you insights and skills in key areas of transition, such as energy, mining, agriculture, waste management, and the reduction of plastics in the circular economy. You will study the law, policy, and economics of energy transition across the energy cycle.

You’ll learn about:

the promotion of renewable energy forms and the ways to reduce carbon emissions from conventional and unconventional fossil fuels

the social dimension of the transition to cleaner energy, which must deliver access for all, be socially just, and fair for all countries

environmentally and socially sustainable mining in producer countries

You will develop your ability to analyse, evaluate, and critically review theory and policy debates relating to sustainability. You will be able to draw on international perspectives and examples of best practice in relation to methods of evaluation and assessment of sustainability.

In 2015, all UN countries pledged support for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve a more prosperous future for all while protecting natural resources.This course aligns itself closely to these goals and you will have the opportunity to learn more about them during your studies.

Entry Requirements

An honours degree in Law, Geography, Environmental Science/Studies, Planning, Engineering, or Business Studies at lower second class or above.

Consideration will also be given to applicants with other academic backgrounds who explain clearly their motivation for undertaking the relevant MSc, outlining any relevant work experience.
