    MSc/PgDip/PgCert 1 Year FT

Course Description

This course provides an opportunity for those working, or intending to work, in sport, exercise, recreation and related areas to upgrade their academic and professional skills, expertise and knowledge.

You will initially select modules in the traditional areas of exercise physiology, psychology, biomechanics and sport and exercise nutrition. Mandatory core modules include Research Methods and Research in Practice. Electives are available in discipline-based modules which allow a more detailed consideration of the contributions of biomechanics, exercise physiology, physiology, psychology and nutrition to the study of sport and exercise.

In addition, multidisciplinary electives are available and offer an opportunity to study a selection of contexts and issues from a general sports science or physical activity perspective.

Students can choose to focus their studies in a particular sports science area or take a broader look, touching on all areas of nutrition, biomechanics, physiology and psychology. This offers a more flexible approach to studying sports science at a postgraduate level allowing students the opportunity to emphasise the aspects of the course that interest them.

With such flexibility in the possible structure of modules, students will likely do a mixture of both formative and summative assessments, including group work, essays, reports, practical sessions, exams and group work.

Entry Requirements

Normally a good honours degree or equivalent prior learning/experience, in sport and exercise science or a related discipline is required.

International students will need to meet the University’s English Language requirement which is IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.0, or equivalent.
