Course Description

You can protect the most vulnerable members of our society and make a positive impact for social justice in the dynamic, challenging and rewarding field of social work. Through both academic and practice-based modules, our MSc programme prepares you to effect real change through research-based practice.

You’ll earn both a master’s degree and the opportunity to qualify as a registered social worker in this intensive two-year, full-time programme – and develop your skills with the full support of our professional, experienced and dedicated staff. This challenging MSc Social Work programme provides an accelerated route to qualification over two years. Successful students will draw on a combination of academic and practice experience, enabling them to study effectively at the master’s level.

Entry Requirements

All applications to this programme should be made via UCAS.All entry requirements listed here should be used as a guide and represent the minimum required to be considered for entry. Applicants who are made a conditional offer of a place may be asked to achieve more than is stated. Minimum academic requirement UK honours degree 2:1 (or equivalent) in an area of social science and substantial relevant practice experience.  Subject to PVG and/or occupational health check. If successful, you will be shortlisted and invited for interview.Note: This course is now closed to all applicants for September 21 entry. English language Academic IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent) with no element below 6.5. Additional Information Other academic and vocational qualifications

Each application to GCU is considered on an individual basis. If you do not have the typical academic entry qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant work experience and/or credits from recognised professional bodies, you may be eligible to enter this course via the University’s Recognition of Prior Learning scheme.
