Ulster’s BPS-accredited online Health Psychology MSc gives you the theoretical concepts and practical skills to improve health outcomes for patients.

Whether you plan on becoming a Health Psychologist or applying your psychological training to other health-related areas, this distance learning Masters programme will give you the scientific principles and research skills to succeed in your chosen career.

This programme is open to anyone with a undergraduate psychology degree (with GBC eligibility), master’s level psychology conversion course, or equivalent. English language requirements also apply.

At the end of Ulster’s Health Psychology MSc programme you’ll have a critical understanding of the contexts and theories behind health-related behaviours, as well as advanced practical research skills in the application of Health Psychology techniques. Other vocationally relevant outcomes include statistical analysis, communication skills, evaluation and analytics and independent study at a postgraduate level.

Modules

The programme comprises six core modules and a dissertation. The scope of the modules follows a BPS framework to ensure its relevance and qualification as Stage 1 training.

The core modules are:

  • Bio-Behavioural Mechanisms Underlying Health
  • Individual Perspectives in Health Psychology
  • Methods and Issues in Research and Practice
  • Social, Cultural and Family Perspectives in Health Psychology
  • Context and Perspectives in Health Psychology
  • Models and Applications in Health Psychology

To complete the MSc you will need to have completed all modules and the dissertation. You learn invaluable skills and knowledge in communication, research, critical analysis and biopsychosocial theory.

Entry Requirements

  • At least a 2:1 honours degree in psychology conferring eligibility for GBC membership of the British Psychological Society (or National/international Equivalent e.g. PSI)OR
  • An accredited MSc Psychology conversion programme with a merit grade or above
  • PLUS
  • Provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (GCSE grades A-C or equivalent)
