MA Documentary Filmmaking

This two year full time MA Documentary course with storytelling at its core, gives students the opportunity to experiment and explore their creative ambitions through in-depth learning of professional craft skills and the development of their personal voice. The course will equip our students to tell human stories in cinematic ways.

Each term, students will work on graduated film exercises; working individually in the first year and as part of a film crew in the second year. Learning through continuous practice, students will integrate their technical and narrative skills with a critical understanding, awareness and appreciation of the diversity and potential within the genre. They will graduate with both the personal and key professional skills to succeed.

This freedom to develop their individual and artistic voice as documentary filmmakers is achieved through an integrated educational approach. Students are supported with craft classes and contextual teaching within the documentary genre, with lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials, as well as pitching panels, post-production screenings, industry crits and a graduate showcase.
