Our course is unique in that it combines the study of acoustics, audio system design and software engineering. In fact, you’ll develop an understanding of everything in which audio plays a part and the science behind it.

We’ll teach you about digital signal processing, how we generate audio effects, research on psychoacoustics, analogue modelled effects and music information retrieval – analysing music to pull out meaningful information like drum beats and rhythm. You’ll also examine new research areas to develop better audio effects.
If you have an inquiring mind about audio and want to know more about how things work and the impact this has on the way we use them, this course is a great opportunity to pursue your passion. We’ll give you the chance to tailor your studies on any of the key areas within our course that interest you most.
Requirements:Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subjects of Audio Technology or Engineering, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
