About the courses

Bath is ranked in the top 100 worldwide for development studies* - an ideal environment for you to kickstart or progress your career in this fast-changing sector. Our range of programmes allow you to study full- or part-time, either on campus or online.

You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of contemporary conflict and humanitarian crises. At Bath, we’ll help you gain the expertise needed to work in the fields of peacebuilding and humanitarian response – to tackle the global challenges of poverty, inequality, conflict, sustainability and social justice.

Gain real-world experience

On all of our MSc International Development pathways, you can gain real-world experience and complement your studies with a placement instead of completing a traditional dissertation. You’ll undertake an eight-week work-based project with an organisation involved in international development – such as the United Nations Development Programme, the Centre for Development Studies or EdUKaid.

Our distance learning MSc in Humanitarianism, Conflict and Development includes two intensive residentials on our Bath campus, where you’ll have a chance to connect with your peers and experience face-to-face teaching. There is also an optional third residential in Amman, Jordan, which offers an excellent opportunity to learn from senior policymakers and explore how issues relating to human displacement and humanitarianism apply to a specific regional context.
