Description

Study an MPA to drive innovation across public, private, and civil sectors

Addressing 21st-century challenges such as transitioning to a greener, more sustainable economy, decreasing inequality or improving inclusive public services, require new ways of thinking and new organisational capabilities.

Innovation, Public Policy and Public Value MPA at UCL’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose equips you with the skills to drive purpose-driven change across public, private, and civil sectors, blending structural innovation with our alternative approach to policymaking.

Study with world-leading faculty, innovating public policy worldwide

Our faculty features leading global experts in economics, policy innovation, and digital governance, including Professor Marianna Mazzucato, described as “one of the world’s most influential economists” (Quartz), Professor Rainer Kattel, and Associate Professor David Eaves. Their groundbreaking work shapes the specialised MPA pathways available to you, including:

  • Public Administration - specialise in the ways in which governments can increase public sector capabilities to tackle the main challenges faced by societies.
  • Economic Policy and Political Economy - explore the relationship between states and markets, and the economic challenges facing modern capitalist economies.
  • Digital Transformation – develop your critical digital-era skills in the public sector.

Placement with purpose to build your career

You will apply the new ideas you learn to organisations that are tackling 21st century challenges through a choice of completing an industry placement with one of our policy partners or a research-based thesis. This process allows you to stretch and test your studies, applied to the challenges of real organisations.

Applications are open

Applications are open now for our master’s courses starting in September 2025. The application deadline for most courses is 4 April 2025 for applicants requiring a visa and 29 August 2025 for those who do not require a visa.
