Description

Plant Pathology Postgraduate degree – funding options available

Although food production has tripled in the last 40 years, approximately 1 billion people still go hungry, with an average of 30 per cent of all available food being wasted during production, processing and distribution. Crop losses through plant disease either pre- or post-harvest are an important component of these losses. There is currently a shortage of expertise in plant pathology, which is a key element in the effort to ensure global food security and mitigating the effects of climate change.

This course

This course will:

  • Prepare students for a career in plant pathology
  • Offer vocational training in the area of applied plant pathology
  • Prepare students for PhD studies

Why Harper Adams?

As the only provider of a plant pathology postgraduate degree in the UK, where better to study than with us!

Our students see theory in action, are taught literally in the field, carry out experiments, conduct field trials, and then analyse their own samples in our ever-expanding laboratory complex, within a vibrant research and teaching environment – and all without leaving the campus.

Set on a 494-hectare farm, our Harper campus is home to the cutting-edge; such as our Agricultural Engineering Innovation Centre, where the future of farming is being pioneered with agricultural robots; the Elizabeth Creak Science Laboratories and a new robotic dairy – to name but a few. All our students have access to this technology and we wholeheartedly encourage exploration and research throughout your degree.

Speaking of research, Harper Adams is a recognised centre of research excellence with the 2021 Government Research Excellence Framework rating 60 per cent of the university’s research as “world leading” or “internationally excellent” – an almost ten per cent increase since our previous submission.
