The University of Kent has achieved a ranking of 40th out of 131 institutions nationally in The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.

Kent is also one of the biggest risers in the Guide, with a leap of 12 places from the previous year.

The Guide reflects Kent’s excellence in research performance (up to joint 32nd) and that the University’s ‘rates of student satisfaction are moving up. It ranks Kent 32nd for Ethnic Diversity and notes that 45% of our students are the first in their family to attend university. This reflects our commitment to inclusivity and opportunity for all ahead of the launch of our First in Family Programme on 17 October, which will enable First In Family or ‘First Gen’ students to learn more about the support that is available to them.

Regarding the teaching and learning environment, the Guide states that Kent’s ‘most recent developments include upgraded facilities for natural sciences and high-spec teaching laboratories for computing. For forensic science students, there is a new taphonomy farm and a chamber for developing fingerprints. Students on courses within Architecture have been afforded more studio space in line with Kent’s creation of a ‘21st-century studio culture’.

The University’s Interim Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Georgina Randsley de Moura, said: ‘This is excellent news for our students, staff and all those considering joining us here at Kent.

‘It is without doubt a ringing endorsement of the hard work everyone across the University is doing to ensure that our curriculum, teaching and student experience are inclusive. We have an ambition to inspire our students for their future and to deliver cutting edge teaching with an emphasis on creativity, skills and employability.

‘I would like to thank all those who have made this achievement possible and I look forward to celebrating further progress and successes with them in the years ahead.’
