How studying MSc Data Science at Cardiff Met has helped me achieve my career goals

My name is Olugbenga Adesanya, and I’m thrilled to share my experience studying Data Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I was drawn into the world of Data Science because of my fascination with the rapidly evolving field of data, artificial intelligence and its impact on the modern world. With a sense of curiosity and ambition, I chose Cardiff Metropolitan University because of the course curriculum amongst other things.

Having struggled to learn a programming language on my own for years, I decided to take up another challenge – ‘jump into the deep and see how well you will swim out’, I told myself. I applied to several schools, but I decided on Cardiff Met as the course curriculum stood out for me and the University had just won The Welsh University of the Year 2021 and Times Higher Education UK&I University of the Year 2021. Who doesn’t like to be associated with success?

The program offered a strong practical approach, allowing me to gain hands-on experience in the field of data science. From working with real-world data sets, use of industry software like Tableau, PowerBI etc and learning in different sub-groups with experienced tutors who helped and shaped me. I also studied long hours to master my python skills by enrolling in different online courses at the same time. Not only did I swim out successfully, but I also transitioned from a novice in python programming language to the Data Science student of the year and I never felt prouder of my achievements.

MSc Data Science program at Cardiff Met played a pivotal role in helping me achieve my career goals. As a cyber security professional, Cardiff Met has given me the confidence in integrating some of the theoretical and practical knowledge gained during my studies into the cyber security field. I am now working as a cyber security professional in one of the UK’s leading financial institutions.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the MSc Data Science program at Cardiff Metropolitan University to prospective students who are passionate about the data science field. The practical approach, supportive tutors amongst other things have truly set me on the path I wanted to be. It has been an enriching journey, and I can confidently say Cardiff Met was the right choice for me and I believe it can be the same for anyone with keen interest in data science. So, if you’re considering what university to choose for this course, seize the opportunity and it’s a decision you won’t regret.
