    MA Full-time 1 year

    Part-time 2 years

Course Description

Challenge your creative practice and push the boundaries of what textiles can be on this MA.

Our staff have expertise in knitted, printed and woven textiles, materials research, craft, technology, heritage and sustainability – and a network of industry contacts to support your professional development.

You’ll learn about a diverse range of textiles markets, how to identify and achieve your commercial potential and how to develop and refine your knowledge.

We place an emphasis on practice-based research that explores materials and processes from diverse sources and engages with critical debates and design challenges.

Due to the open and explorative nature of the course, students from non-textiles backgrounds are welcomed.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements listed here are our typical offer for this course if you wish to begin studying with us in 2021. They should be used as a general guide.

There is no formal deadline for receipt of applications, and applications may be made at any time. At the point of admission, students are expected to have clear reasoning behind their choice to undertake this program and an understanding of the textiles context they want to explore, along with a desire and determination to develop their knowledge. Direct access to semester 3 of the program will only be considered when applicants have accrued an appropriate number of credits in a relevant subject at postgraduate level.

Degree and experience
Applicants for the Textiles MA should be able to demonstrate a level of enquiry and investigation relevant to their proposed area of study and an ability to succeed at postgraduate level, for example through a relevant honours degree or equivalent professional experience.

Interviews normally take place in person but temporarily from March 2020, all interviews will be replaced by an online portfolio submission.

Through their personal statement and design proposal submitted with their application, applicants must demonstrate:

  • an ability to articulate individual perceptions and understandings of textiles design
  • an ability to positively engage in critical discussion regarding their work and its broader implications and context
  • an ability to work independently and to critically appraise and develop their practice within the context of textiles
  • experience and competency in the relevant area of textiles design through a body of work.
