Course Description

Teaching is an incredibly rewarding profession. Each day is different and you can make a lifelong impact on many children’s lives. If you’re considering teaching, a PGCE degree with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is a great route to get there.

Our PGCE in Secondary Mathematics will enable you to become a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) in just one year. As Mathematics is core to the secondary school national curriculum, you could receive a £24,000 Government bursary to support you financially through the course.

  • Qualify as a teacher in one year – this course includes Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), allowing you to teach in any state-funded school in the UK and beyond
  • The course will allow you to teach Key Stages 3 and 4 as well as A level (ages 11 to 19)
  • You’ll gain teaching experience in two contrasting school placements
  • You’ll be taught at Masters level – this means you can carry 60 Masters level credits forward to a full Masters level degree

  • We are offering a £1000 bursary for Chichester alumni students continuing their studies with a PGCE.

Entry Requirements

  • Normally candidates will have an honours degree at 2.2 or above where the content can be demonstrated to be at least 50% mathematics.
  • If you are unsure about the suitability of your degree please contact the course co-ordinator.
  • All candidates must have achieved grade C / 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths.
  • All applicants will be required to demonstrate awareness of professional requirements within schools and an awareness of the education sector.
  • GCSE Equivalency: We would normally expect applicants to have taken and passed the full GCSE course however in some circumstances we do accept equivalent qualifications or equivalency tests. If you are unable to enrol for the full GCSE course, please contact Admissions to discuss which equivalent qualifications we may accept.
