Course Description

Are you passionate about Dance and want to teach in secondary schools or colleges? Our PGCE Secondary Dance degree will allow you to become a qualified teacher in just one year.

  • The course will allow you to teach Key Stages 3 and 4 as well as A level (ages 11 to 19)
  • You’ll gain teaching experience in two contrasting school placements
  • You’ll be taught at Masters level – this means you can carry 60 Masters level credits forward to a full Masters level degree.
  • We are offering a £1000 bursary for Chichester alumni students continuing their studies with a PGCE

Entry Requirements

  • Typically, an honours degree in Dance with a classification of 2.1 or above.
  • All candidates must have achieved at least a ‘C’ / 4 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics and having an A level or equivalent qualification in Dance is an advantage.
  • All applicants will be required to demonstrate awareness of professional requirements within schools and an awareness of the education sector.
  • Successful candidates are those who are able to demonstrate a genuine interest in Dance through personal performance and dance experience; and through working with young people in a creative setting.
  • If you meet the entry requirements, you will be invited for an interview at the Chichester Campus, Bishop Otter.
  • All successful applicants will have to obtain clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and complete a satisfactory Medical Declaration before commencement of the course.
  • The admissions co-ordinator welcomes email contact from potential candidates who are unsure about the suitability of their qualifications.
  • GCSE Equivalency: We would normally expect applicants to have taken and passed the full GCSE course however in some circumstances we do accept equivalent qualifications or equivalency tests. If you are unable to enrol for the full GCSE course, please contact Admissions to discuss which equivalent qualifications we may accept.
