The School Direct Secondary training route is a full-time, school-based programme that runs over one year. It offers the opportunity to work closely with a lead school and tutors from the university to develop your chosen secondary subject knowledge.
You’ll get the opportunity to work in a school and gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education qualification at the University. You will need to apply directly to a school that will train you in partnership with the University.
Alongside working in a specific school, great care is taken to find you a six-week placement in a second school. This will build your teaching skills by experiencing a contrasting setting and demographic.
After successful completion, you will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) so that you can begin working as a teacher in a secondary school.
Honours degree 2:2 or above.
