Course Description

This is for you if... you want to study research methods at an advanced level and conduct an original research project in psychology.

This postgraduate degree will provide you with advanced training in research methods in human cognitive neuroscience, equipping you with the research and professional skills required for a research career.

The School of Psychology and Vision Sciences has particular research strengths in:

  • Cognitive and behavioural sciences
  • Perception and sensory processing
  • Health and psychological wellbeing, including ageing

You will be encouraged to undertake a research project in one of these areas.

Assessment method

All teaching is seminar based, or in one-to-one tutorial and research supervision sessions, with continuous assessment in the form of a research protocol, oral and poster presentations, and in the development of portfolios of assessed activities. You will write a thesis on original empirical research, which will involve an oral exam (viva).

Entry Requirements

Second class honours degree in psychology, biological science or a related discipline.

English Language Requirements
IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
