Course Description

The programme offers students the opportunity to explore literary and religious texts and ideas, including the history of the emerging field as well as current issues in both areas of study and in their interaction.

The programme draws on the expertise of world-renowned academics in Theology, Ethics, Religious Studies and Biblical Studies. Working within a supportive academic community, students are guided on a personalised path to doctoral study or to another relevant career.

Entry Requirements

A UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, with a mark of at least 65%, in a relevant humanities subject such as theology, religious studies, or English Literature.

Student Destinations

This programme is designed to prepare you for PhD work in the field of Religion and Literature, as well as in allied subjects, or to move on to non-academic work of various kinds including teaching, academic publishing, religious leadership and the creative arts.

Module Details

You will receive a strong grounding in the academic field of Religion and Literature in the core course for all students on the programme.

You may choose optional coursework from a range including Scottish Literature, Imagination and Faith; Science and Religion in Literature; Islamic Literature; Peacebuilding, Theology and the Arts; and Lives of the Buddha in Indian Art and Literature. (Not all courses will be available each year).

You will also have the option of further courses in the School of Divinity, and in English Literature, subject to availability of spaces.
