MSc Professional Risk And Safety Management (degree Apprenticeship)

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    MSc 3 years full-time

Masters Degree Description

This degree apprenticeship has been specifically designed to enable the apprentice to develop the knowledge, skills, professional behaviours and values required by the nationally approved MSc Apprenticeship Standard in Risk and Safety.

As a degree apprentice, they are an employee earning a wage (at least the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage) usually working at least 30 hours per week. They are also a full-time student at Middlesex University with the same access and entitlements to services and support as they undertake their degree.

Once they successfully complete their degree apprenticeship, they will have met the Apprenticeship Standard and be recognised as being fully competent to carry out the role of a risk and safety professional. This programme also includes the opportunity to gain professional status as all apprenticeships in England are required to include professional recognition where available.

This programme of study is very much designed to focus on developing the apprentice’s skills in occupational health and safety, enabling assessment and evaluation of risks based on sound scientific and evidenced practice.

Assignments are built around practical exercises and outputs that the apprentice will need to provide in the field of work, including management reports and accident appraisals. The apprentice will develop an informed, critical and imaginative attitude towards professional practice and provide them with transferable skills and competence in their chosen field.

A critical component of the award is the development of their communication skills using a variety of media to specialist, senior executives and non-specialist persons on matters pertaining to occupational safety and health.

Entry Requirements

Employers of apprentices will set their selection criteria for their candidates which should include evidence that applicants have capacity to work at level 6+ in preparation for the masters award track.

Equivalent work based experience may be considered at the discretion of the programme team and employer and may require submission of a piece of work to demonstrate experience and readiness to study at level 6+. Employers who are considering candidates who do not have level 6 (as set out above) should discuss their suitability with the programme leader.
