PGCE Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) In-Service

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    PGCE 2 years part-time

Course Description

Share your love of learning. Use your specialist subject knowledge every day. Help people discover new interests and careers.

This PCET course is for people who are already working as teachers or trainers and want to achieve the sector qualification for teaching in post-16 settings.

Further education institutions need teachers with specialist subject knowledge who can teach people who want to explore subjects they weren’t offered in school. If you have a degree from a range of subjects including non-curriculum areas such as psychology, law or dance, you could be a teacher in post-16 education.

Entry Requirements

You will usually need to hold a 2:2 (or above) honours degree from a UK Higher Education institution or an equivalent qualification and be deemed suitable to train to teach by the School of Education at the University of Sunderland.

You should also hold a GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent qualifications) in Maths and English Language. If you have studied for a GCSE which has a numerical grade then you will need to achieve a grade 4 or above.

You must also have:

  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • A completed medical pro forma (based on DFEE Circular 8/92)
  • Confirmation that you have secured 100 hours of teaching practice over the two years of the course

If you are invited for an interview, you will be asked to complete a pre-interview written task, participate in a group activity and complete a short in-house literacy assessment.
