Course Description

The MA Medieval Studies allows you to roam periods of history from the late antiquity to the renaissance, and geographies from the British Isles and France, to Italy and the Holy Land.

Teaching is empowered by specialist Swansea University expertise, particularly in the areas of gender, warfare, aristocratic culture, and frontiers and borderlands.

You have the chance to develop a formidable knowledge base about the medieval heritage of South Wales and the surrounding region.

WHY MEDIEVAL STUDIES AT SWANSEA?

Your study will be enhanced by the influential external connections of Swansea University. These include organisations responsible for preserving Welsh historical sites such as Cadw and the Royal Commission for the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, as well as West Glamorgan Record Office and the library of Hereford Cathedral.

You will study on our stunning Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula.

Within the School of Culture and Communication is the Graduate Centre, designed to promote individual and collaborative research activity of international standard, and provide a supportive environment for those pursuing postgraduate research and taught masters study.

Entry Requirements

The typical entry requirement is a degree in Medieval Studies, History or Literature or a relevant discipline, normally a lower second (average 55 per cent) or above or equivalent. Overseas and European applicants must achieve IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.
