This specialism will equip you with the advanced legal skills and knowledge needed in the complex and rapidly changing field of international commercial law.
Our International Commercial Law LLM stream offers an impressive range of specialist topics and allows you to choose to follow a path of study to suit your specialisms and needs. You will choose eight modules from our comprehensive list. You can select from a range of subjects dealing with international trade and finance, corporate law banking law, competition law, intellectual property and the world trading system. In order to gain the specialism in International Commercial Law, you will need to select 90 credits from modules within this stream and complete your dissertation on a topic within international commercial law. This gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore other subject areas that interest you.
The course will equip you with advanced legal study and research skills and our seminar-based teaching will ensure you have the opportunity to develop your verbal and written presentation skills, which will further enhance your professional prospects.
When you apply for this course, you will apply for the Master of Laws (LLM). Once you have arrived in Leicester, you will be able to specialise in International Commercial Law through your module choices. Your degree certificate will reflect your chosen specialism.
Assessment method
You will be taught mainly through interactive seminars where you will test your understanding by engaging in critical discussion of the topics with your fellow students. Before each seminar you will research the answers to a set of questions and come prepared to discuss your ideas and findings, sometimes working in small groups. Most modules are assessed by a research paper and for many of these you have the opportunity to choose your own research focus. Some modules may be assessed by presentation, examination or reflective log. Over the summer you will be required to complete a 15,000 word dissertation on a subject of your own choice.
A good second class degree or an equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline. Relevant professional experience post-graduation is given due credit in considering entry requirements. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with 6.0 in writing and nothing less than 5.5. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability.
