Innovations In Professional Practice

This course is aimed at qualified health and social care professionals who have a passion for a particular area of practice and who wish to develop innovative approaches to their work. There will also be a structured programme of teaching and learning opportunities exploring ethics, relevant research methodology, evaluation tools, and how to judge impact.

In negotiation with your line manager and tutor, you will have the opportunity to identify a workplace related issue for investigation, for which you will carry out a small scale research project that will have a positive impact upon policy and/or practice within your work environment.

You will critically analyse and synthesise current knowledge, legislation and policy that is relevant to your chosen project and write up the results of your work in a draft for publication, targeting a specific journal.

The innovative practice you have designed and evaluated during your course will directly benefit the service users within the organisation you work for.

Teaching and assessment

You will be taught through a series of lectures, tutorials and seminars. Your studies will be supported by the University’s virtual learning environment.

Assessment will include a written draft for publication and presentation. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
