MA Part Time: 2 years, Full Time: within 1 year.

Course Description

Our MA English is not a traditional postgraduate course. This outward-looking, contemporary and relevant programme regards you and your cohort as co-producers of knowledge, and encourages you to think about the relevance of your research in the world outside academia, emphasising literature’s embeddedness in pressing cultural and political issues. Learn more about the literature you love while becoming confident, critical and professional in sectors including education, cultural heritage, government and the media.

You are prepared for career success in a variety of contexts, with highly valued and transferrable skills including verbal presentation; planning and management of small and large research; personal reflection and evaluation; and writing for diverse audiences.

You participate in a postgraduate conference, working with your cohort to plan, organise and deliver an event where you present a piece of your original research. The module serves to cultivate high-level skills in independent research as well as aptitudes in planning, organisation, marketing, and working collaboratively in leading and support roles.

Entry Requirements

You should normally have an undergraduate degree of 2.2 or above in English or a cognate discipline. Other relevant experience or equivalent qualifications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

If English is not your first language you also need an IELTS score of 6.5 or above overall, and at least 7 for the written component (from an exam taken within the last two years). For general information please see our overview of entry requirements.
