Postgraduate Credit Contraception and Sexual Health (CASH)

Course Description

This is a highly specialised course that will enable you to demonstrate to employers and potential employers your knowledge and skills relevant to working in contraception and sexual health services. It will provide the theoretical and evidence based underpinning to contemporary CASH practice and helps you to develop new approaches to client care. The practice competencies are based on a nationally recognised framework for practice which identifies a high standard and quality of care in this area.

It is suitable for professionals from a variety of settings including midwifery, CASH and GUM (genito-urinary medicine) services, school nursing, practice nursing, gynaecology and youth services.

Entry Requirements

  • You must be a qualified nurse, midwife or allied health professional with appropriate current professional role in sexual health or a wish to develop in this area of practice.
  • If you have trained as a nurse or midwife overseas or are an international applicant you must provide evidence of IELT 7.0 or above and where relevant, evidence of current NMC registered status to practice in the UK.
  • If seeking financial / practice support from an employer you must have agreed this in advance of the application. You must be able to achieve the practice competencies associated with this course either in your current workplace; if you require a placement to be arranged there will be additional costs payable to the practice placement directly. Your course leader will be able to advise you on this.
  • If you have completed previous relevant study at another Higher Education Institution you may be eligible for exemption from the theoretical component of the course (your Course Leader will advise you).
  • You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously known as the criminal record check via the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)).
