University of Northampton Waterside Campus, University Dr, Northampton NN1 5PH, UK
Welcome to the University of Northampton
The University of Northampton celebrates the path less trodden. The different thinkers. The different doers. Those inspired to make a difference to their own lives and the world around them.
We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we’re already leading the way in social impact – doing good things that help society. We’ve won awards for our work in this area, but what really matters to us is making sure our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That’s why we were the first University in the UK to be named as a “Changemaker Campus”.
We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be, and that’s why we decided to build a whole new University from the ground up. Join us and you’ll be welcomed to our purpose-built Waterside Campus, which opened in 2018 and has been designed around the way you actually learn rather than the way you’re expected to.
Perhaps you want to study for a degree to kick-start or progress your career? Maybe you’re passionate about a subject that’s grabbed your interest and you want to learn every detail you can? Maybe you simply want to change the world?
Whatever has led you to us, we’re glad you’re here. We know we can do great things together.

Walking through the doors you’ll enter an incredible light-filled foyer that has been built around the model of a piazza, where people meet, study, work or just relax. The building is a flexible venue, suitable for guest lectures, exhibitions and events and learning spaces. It’s designed to encourage students and staff from different subject areas to come together and collaborate.
The Development Hub is home to a small number of courses within acting, art and music, as well as Pre-Sessional English. The newly-refurbished building contains specialist teaching space, along with shared meeting rooms, breakout areas and a student common room.
The Energy Centre The campus is powered by its own Energy Centre, designed to save over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 in the short term by using woodchip biomass and gas to provide hot water and low carbon heating to buildings all around the site.
The Engine Shed Your Students’ Union has its home in the Engine Shed, a Grade II listed building that’s undergone an incredible refurbishment thanks to a £1.5m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Along with the Students’ Union venue in town, you won’t be short of places to spend time with your friends.
The Sports Dome However you choose to spend your downtime, the Sports Dome gives you access to a whole host of sports – including netball, badminton, volleyball and basketball.
