100% world-leading and internationally excellent environment – Research Excellence Framework (REF) 202
We are a department of global distinction actively engaged in addressing worldwide challenges such as global warming, access to clean drinking water, sustainability, and healthcare. Swansea has a rich tradition of excellence in devising solutions for healthcare issues, including the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Our expertise extends to the design and characterisation of fluid formulations, the creation of innovative materials and manufacturing technologies, as well as the development of catalysts and sensors for sustainable chemistry.
Chemical Engineering offers a diverse range of employment prospects. Chemical Engineers, or Process Engineers, possess not only transferable skills but also extensive knowledge across various domains, often ascending to leadership roles within teams. Our alumni have successfully forged careers in diverse industries, including energy/power stations, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, oil and gas, brewing, food, water treatment, and environmental sectors. They have contributed their expertise to renowned companies such as Tata Steel, BP, GlaxoSmithKline, Phillips 66, and Pepsi Co.
Our facilities include the Pilot Chemical Laboratory which has 15 pilot-scale rigs. These rigs are the same as those used in industry, and therefore after you graduate, you will already have gained experience of using the same equipment as many Chartered Chemical Engineers. Our Chemical Engineering facilities are so impressive that the TV series, Dr. Who filmed a few episodes in our labs. See photos.
