I’m currently working as an assistant electrical and automation engineer with Primetals Technologies Limited, in Sheffield, after completing my master in Automation, Control and Robotics at Sheffield Hallam. When I interviewed for the job, I realised the company was working with the same technology I had been using in the lab on my course; so my experience at SHU definitely had a direct impact on my career!
Before I came to Sheffield, I was working in automation for a firm back in India. I wanted to become more attractive to employers and knew that studying my masters abroad would give me a competitive edge.
Meeting new people here in Sheffield and immersing myself in a new culture has enhanced my social skills and given me a wider perspective on the world. Early on, I decided to work as a student ambassador for the International Career Enhancement Club, which offers support and guidance to students from overseas. I gained a wide circle of friends and became more confident and independent.
I’m really happy in the new role I’m in, and really glad I was able to stay in Sheffield – it feels like home now.
