As a student in water and environment, you will work with real-world problems and finding the solutions will most often include experiments in the laboratories, field measurements on the locations and advanced computer modelling. The education focuses on the civil engineering perspective but also includes significant content of chemical and biological aspects in relation to the water environment.
The study emphasizes the three following topics:
Rain and sewage discharge from urban areas is an area of great importance concerning public health and welfare wastewater in the cities. There are many challenges in designing systems that can handle the urban water, prevent floods and minimize the environmental exposure. The influence of climate changes has increased the focus on storm water management.
Drinking water in several countries including Denmark is abstracted from groundwater. The quality of the groundwater is affected by pollution from urban areas or farming, and since groundwater interacts with surface water (rivers and lakes), an integrated and sustainable management of this resource is important.
Discharges from urban areas and industries have significant influence on the water quality of rivers, lakes, and coastal waters. The programme enables the student to predict (by computer modelling) and monitor effects of such discharges in order to be able to evaluate various measures to reduce these effects.
Graduate students enrolled in the Master’s Programme in Water and Environment have access to the laboratories of the Department of Civil Engineering. This includes
Each group of approximately 4-6 students will have their own office/group room on campus.
