Masters Degree Description

Our Primary BEd and Primary PGCE Teacher Education courses were inspected by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) and both courses were judged to be Outstanding (Grade 1) in 2015. 

Our PGCE Primary Teacher Education course aims to prepare you for entry into the teaching profession, developing your expertise in teaching children aged either three to seven years or five to 11 years. There are two awards: Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, depending on attainment in the academic aspects of the course. Both awards include Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Entry Requirements

  • you will need at least a 2.2 honours degree or equivalent preferably in a subject that is relevant to the primary school curriculum
  • you will need a minimum grade C in English language,  mathematics and a science subject at GCSE 
  • you will need to be able to demonstrate evidence of successful experience in a primary classroom setting (a minimum of ten full days is advised)
  • successful completion of the literacy and numeracy professional skills test
  • in addition to the above, successful applicants will be required to complete two weeks of school experience in a primary school before commencing the PGCE course 
  • EU and international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other band) or equivalent
