The aim of the Physical Education with English course is to develop thoughtful teachers who can respond effectively to the learning needs of young people in school by providing a balanced physical education programme. We also want to inspire a generation to become physically literate and active by providing well prepared, high quality physical education experiences for all students. In addition to this, you will also be able to effectively teach the English curriculum as a second subject. As a trainee you will learn how to teach Physical Education and English to pupils in the 11-16 age range within the secondary age phase, with additional primary and post-16 enhancements. You will learn how to develop skills, knowledge and understanding for teaching Physical Education and English through a combination of university-led and school-led training.
You will have to possess a real interest and aptitude for Physical Education and English and an ability to think creatively about presenting the subject to others. Candidates will be expected to teach physical education topics such as gymnastics, swimming and athletics. You will also be expected to have good curricular knowledge of English. Above all, you will need a real commitment to the education of young people and a desire to inspire a generation. Also you will need:

Please note degree content will not be accepted as a replacement for the additional requirement of an A-level (or equivalent) qualification within the second subject.
