Course Description

The MRes (Pharmaceutical Sciences) course at UCLan provides specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of drug development, with the emphasis on the procedure of drug discovery, from target identification through to product marketing.

The course comprises of 1 semester of taught lectures, tutorials and lab work followed by 2 semesters of full-time, independent laboratory based research project. This course is taught by researchers who have published extensively in the field of chemistry / pharmaceutics and who have a wide variety of expertise in drug development, formulation and drug delivery. The student will have an opportunity to select the supervisor and a research topic in a field of biopharmaceutics, inhalation, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmaceutics, 3D printing, herbal drug extraction, structure modifications, nanotechnology, topical and oral medications.

Entry Requirements

  • Recent honours degree (Minimum 2:2 UK-equivalent) in the fields of physical sciences, biosciences or pharmacy (or overseas equivalent).
  • International students should have an English language qualification: IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 600 (paper) and 250 (CBE) with TWE 4.
  • A qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent to the above.
