The LLM in Islamic Finance and Business Law offers students an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that are practice orientated in the Islamic law relating to business and finance. It covers the establishment and operation of financial institutions and businesses that are Shari’ah compliant and the provision of both financial services and products. Students taking this programme are required to take both modules on Islamic Finance Law and Islamic Business Law and write a dissertation on a topic within one of these modules. Having regard to the importance of Shari’ah not only as the relevant law in many jurisdictions around the world, but also on international transactions and even within non-Islamic legal systems this programme provides those anticipating practice in an international context or in regions such as the Middle East an opportunity to study in depth a system of law that is increasingly becoming more significant.
All materials will be available in English. Knowledge of Arabic is not required.

The LLM Islamic Finance Law and Islamic Business Law is a one year full-time or two year part-time programme comprising of the modules below. You must complete the core module in Islamic Finance Law and Islamic Business Law and write a dissertation in this area, as well as take two modules from the list below.

The modules on Islamic Finance Law and Islamic Business Law address from a practical stance the relevant Islamic law and policies relating to the operation of general commercial and financial business and investment under Shari’ah.
In addition to the two compulsory modules and a 10,000 word dissertation students are required to select two further electives from the optional.
