The MSc programme in Electro-Mechanical System Design (EMSD) educates graduates who are able to engineer systems and devices where mechanics, electronics, and intelligent control systems are integrated tightly. In this way synergetic advantages can be exploited in order to develop truly mechatronic products where different technologies are merged together in the best possible way for use in e.g. industrial products and in automotive components.
As a candidate at the Electro-Mechanical Systems Design programme, you gain a broad knowledge within the areas of mechatronic system design, modelling and analysis of electro-mechanical systems, information technology and control theory. This enables you to take part in interdisciplinary technical development and research projects.
In the programme, emphasis is put on disciplines such as modelling of multi-domain systems, simulation, system optimisation, and applied control engineering.
The project work is focused on putting theory into practice. You will typically do your project work in cooperation with a company; this is a great opportunity to try out your ideas and knowledge in a real-life situation.
Please make sure you send your application form and further documentation via post to the International Office by the required deadline.
Furthermore please note the official language requirements for international students applying to Aalborg University are:
IELTS (academic test): 6.5
TOEFL (paper-based): 550
TOEFL (computer-based): 230
TOEFL (internet-based): 80
Cambridge ESOL: C1
For further information regarding deadlines and requirements please see the website How to apply to Aalborg University
Students from outside EU/EEA please see http://www.apply.aau.dk/how-to-apply-postgraduate/tuition-fee/
Graduates from the programme have many possible careers paths. A lot of candidates pursue a technical career in either industry or academia, whereas others favour project management positions. A few examples of companies that employ EMSD graduates include:
•Vestas Wind Systems
•Grundfos
•Siemens Wind Power
•MAN B&W
Electro-Mechanical Systems Design is a full time two year master’s programme. The overall theme of each semester is as follows:
Electric and Fluid Power Servomechanisms.
Design and control of power transmission systems.
Traineeship or study abroad.
Master’s thesis.
For a more thorough description of courses etc. please see the programme’s curriculum.
On the third semester, you have the option of doing an internship in Denmark or abroad, or spending a semester abroad. Aalborg University has collaboration agreements with universities around the globe, and the EMSD research environment has a wide range of internship contacts.
Students from the Electro-Mechanical Systems Design programme have spent a semester at a number of foreign universities, including:
