This degree explores approaches to the archaeological heritage in general, landscape archaeology, archaeology and education, and the archaeology of standing buildings. These fields are explored within a global framework, encouraging both critical intellectual engagement with more advanced academic research while developing skills and understandings in relation to with practical applications. The course materials have been developed for an international student body and are designed to be both relevant to your specific concerns and backgrounds, while seeking to extend horizons globally in new and exciting directions.

The Classical Mediterranean MA, PGDip, PGCert, by distance learning
Distance learning Part-time 1 or 2 years, full- or part-time

This postgraduate degree provides an exciting and challenging forum for you to explore the archaeology and history of the Classical Mediterranean world. You will study and interpret evidence from the Mediterranean to gain a deeper understanding of the societies and economies that shaped classical antiquity.

Our course questions the ways in which the classical past may be reconstructed and will equip you with the analytical skills to identify the debates surrounding textual and material sources, and encourage you to interrogate current perceptions of Greek and Roman societies.

Entry Requirements

Archaeology and Heritage MA, PGDip, PGCert, by distance learning

A good second class (2:1, or equivalent) honours degree in Archaeology (or Anthropology in North America) or a closely related subject.

If you have a degree in a less-relevant subject, you may be able to apply for this degree after completing specific conversion modules to an appropriate standard, by prior agreement with the Course Director.

If you have extensive relevant professional experience (5 years or more) the Course Director may consider this, on an individual basis.

The Classical Mediterranean MA, PGDip, PGCert, by distance learning

2:1 degree in archaeology (or anthropology in North America) or classical studies.

We will consider applicants who do not have a degree but have extensive professional archaeological experience.

If you have a 2:1 degree in a different subject area we may make you a conditional offer on the basis of you first taking some of our undergraduate modules as 'bridging' courses.
